Women In Renewable Energy
As of September 2019, Founder and CEO of CaribAlgae Avila Lindgren has been selected to be one of the 11 mentees in the Women In Renewable Energy (WIRE) Mentorship Program
The program connects senior women in energy from islands with mid-career women in clean energy fields who demonstrate leadership potential. During the first year, eleven mentees are each paired with a mentor, together forming a group of 22 skillful and talented women, each representing their islands. In the second year, the original mentees transition to the mentor role, providing guidance to a new cohort of mentees. Within two years, the program creates a close yet diverse network of island women who learn from each other and develop technical and soft skills to progress their careers. This year Avila is a mentee representing the island Curacao and is mentored by the expert Khadija Usher, representing the island of Belize.
The digital communications platform of the WIRE Network provides webinars on various technical topics and quarterly newsletters that include upcoming networking events, climate change data, relevant news articles, and spotlights on leading women in energy. As of 2017, the WIRE Network has grown to more than 450 members from more than 45 countries.
